We are seeking to appoint an outstanding researcher with an excellent reputation in industrial collaboration to a Chair/Full Professorship in the Department of Aerospace Engineering. The Department, which is well supported with laboratory and computing resources in the Faculty of Engineering and closely linked with Airbus and other industry, enjoys a high international standing in teaching and research and attracts top calibre students.
As the new Chair you will have the vision, enthusiasm and personal skills to lead research and teaching, to champion the aerospace discipline in the University, and to originate, develop and communicate innovative ideas in the integration of aerospace sub-disciplines. In addition to inspired teaching and leadership, the successful candidate will be required to establish a team that will work with Airbus to demonstrate relevant research and technology areas and drive these forward into industrial practice, with an emphasis on high-level wing architecture. The role will incorporate strategic input at Airbus, including contributions to the Airbus Wing Strategy Board.
In this role you will help to shape the future of the Department and Faculty by developing strategy and building effective partnerships with university colleagues and industrial and other stakeholders within the UK and internationally. Preference will be given to candidates whose expertise is aligned with the Faculty of Engineering’s research strategy and is relevant to current and future aircraft wing development, and those who can lead a highly successful strategic relationship with Airbus.
The closing date is likely to be towards mid/end of May 2011, with further timescales to be confirmed but possibly to include interviews in mid/end of July 2011.
Grade: Level e in Pathway 1
Salary: Professorial salary. To be determined on appointment
