The Roma Access Program at Central European University


RAP prepares promising Roma students for their chosen field of study through intensive academic training and by raising their English to a level adequate for post-graduate study. Towards the end of the program, students apply to places of study at MA programs at CEU and other prestigious universities in open competition with other applicants.
The full-time, 9-month course will start at the end of August 2011 and last until the end of May 2012. It will be a combination of:
  • Classes in the student’s chosen field of study—including Gender Studies, International Relations and European Studies, Law/Human Rights, Political Science, Public Policy, or Sociology (additional disciplines may be offered)
  • English language training
  • Academic writing
  • Participation in CEU Master’s level classes
  • The opportunity to improve the students’ knowledge of Romani language, history, and culture.
Who can apply
Young Roma from Central and Eastern Europe (Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, FYR Macedonia, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Kosovo, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, and Ukraine) who have:
  • A university/college degree in any field (preferably in the Social Sciences or the Humanities) by July 2011
  • A strong interest in post-graduate university education
  • At least pre-intermediate English language skills
  • A desire to study in a multicultural and international environment
Your application must include the following:
  1. Completed Application Form (in English), please download it from here
  2. CV, including academic background, work experience if any, and involvement in Roma related issues in your country if any (in English)
  3. Letter of Intention, stating why you would like to participate in this program (in English)
  4. One Reference Letter from a recognized Roma organization – translation into English should be attached if the recommendation is written in local language
  5. One Reference Letter from a university professor or your employer – translation into English should be attached if the recommendation is written in local language
  6. Official scanned copy or photocopy of your diploma or certificate of enrollment confirming that you will graduate from university by July 2011
  7. Official scanned copy or photocopy of your transcript (document showing courses taken and grades received during all your university years)
  8. Official English translations of both your diploma (or certificate of enrollment) and your transcript
Official scanned copies, photocopies, and translations must bear an ink stamp and the signature of a notary public or an authorized university official.
