Researcher/PhD student in the field of sociology of education

The University of Luxembourg invites applications for the following vacancy in its Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education Early stage researcher/PhD student in the field of sociology of education (M/F)

- Fixed term contract 3 years, renewable 1 year, full-time (40 hours per week)
- Student and employee status
The early stage researcher/PhD student will be a member of the LCMI research unit (Language, Culture, Media and Identities) within the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education at the University of Luxembourg. He/she will work under the tutelage of the head of the LCMI research unit Professor Dr. Daniel Tröhler and Associate Professor Dr. Andreas Hadjar.
Activities
- Writing of a thesis in the domain of sociology of education; focus on educational inequalities (e.g. migration background) and characteristics of educational systems
- Contribute to research in the field of educational inequalities
- Contribute to teaching in the domains of educational sociology (educational systems, educational inequalities) and methods of social science research
Profile
- Master’s degree or a diploma in sociology or social sciences
- Profound knowledge of theories and empirical findings on educational inequalities and how different institutional settings (educational system) affect educational inequalities
- Be experienced in quantitative research methods (including sound knowledge of specific software like SPSS, STATA, AMOS, MPLUS, HLM etc.)
- Excellent command of at least two of the following languages: German, English, French
